WPT Sticks With Bellagio

In 2002, The Bellagio staged the first World Poker Tour event, in fact it was the first WPT event anywhere in the world and the decision to hold the championship event at the famous casino resort has been vindicated in the last nine years.

Adam Pliska, WPT President has now announced that The Bellagio and the WPT will extend their hosting agreement until 2011. It’s no coincidence that the WPT IX starts this coming week (18th/19th May) and the main event is the WPT $100,000 Super High Roller.

Slippers And Pipe At The Ready

Are you familiar with Dearfoams? Possibly you don’t even know what they are. Well, you will soon especially if you’re a fan of the WSOP. Dearfoams are a brand of slipper and in what must rank as one of the strangest (or most cunning) sponsorship deals in the history of anything, they are now the official footwear sponsor of the WSOP.

Main Event players, Ladies Championship entrants, dealers and even the ESPN camera crew will be on the receiving end of some complimentary pairs if slippers. Ty Stewart, WSOP Vice-President managed to crowbar in this piece of fluff:

“……Players can now feel truly comfy as they pursue their dreams of winning the WSOP and going on to live a life of leisure where it will be appropriate to wear Dearfoam slippers 24/7.”

ESPN’s WSOP Live Coverage

For the first time this year, in what must be a reflection of the increasing popularity of televised poker and poker in general, ESPN will provide live coverage of much of the tournament, starting on July 14th.

Hole cards will be shown with a thirty minute delay, but only post flop. Two tables will be featured at all times with coverage switching between them at thirty minute intervals but an all in call or any other large call will mean a quick swap to check out the action.
