Event #58 is well under way and on Saturday the original 6865 entrants were finally whittled down to the magic number of 693. 693 is the number of poker players who are guaranteed to leave this game in profit. The rest leave having waved goodbye to the $10,000 buy-in.
This cut off point, commonly known as the ‘money bubble’, brings with it tactical changes all of its own. The dealing even works slightly differently - all remaining tables now synchronise their hands, meaning that one dealer will not start dealing another hand until all other tables have completed the previous one. Player tactics can become extremely conservative - if you know you’re on the limit of being knocked out if actually play any hands, the obvious play is just to fold everything and wait for a less careful player elsewhere to make a rash decision and lose their chips.
If you’re a multi-millionaire poker pro and $10,000 is small change to you, the pressure is perhaps not the same as if you’ve saved all year to get the buy-in money together and are desperate to reach the money stages.
California Adds Detail To Online Gaming Bill
Senator Lou Correa, the California politician introducing SB40, has said that the new online gaming bill will create 1300 jobs and $1.4 billion of extra revenue. Even the most conservative Californian would be hard pressed to argue against figures such as those.
Several politicians involved in the push for new legislation have raised a point which does not seem to have been made previously - that is the need to keep up with other states that are actively preparing workable legislation for when the federal government passes new laws.
Nevada is one such state and their intention is to have tax legislation and network infrastructure in place by January 2012 to take advantage of any possible change in national laws. If there is no federal change then they have the option to embark on intra-state gaming, similar to Washington D.C.
