For some time Phil Ivey has been inextricably inked with Full Tilt Poker and along with a raft of other poker pros has helped build the brand. Ivey has been especially important to Full Tilt because he is regarded by many as the best poker player in the world.
However in a statement releases this week he has stated he is suing Tiltware, the marketing and software company behind Full Tilt. The issue dates back to April 15th(Black Friday) when a number of American facing poker sites were taken off line. This led to a large number of American-based players losing access to their money. While other affected websites appear to have reached agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice to return players money, Full Tilt has been very slow in doing so.
In a lengthy explanation on his website Ivey explains that he his name is inextricably linked with Full Tilt and that his “…..name and reputation have been dragged through the mud.” He also voices concerns for the regular players unable to play in this years WSOP as their entry fees are still ties up with Fill Tilt - hence the boycott of the competition.
For their part, Tiltware have suggested that Ivey’s motives are not as selfless as they appear and he’s only out to help himself. They also say Ivey owes them a large sum of money and that this lawsuit has thrown a spanner in the works of several deals they were attempting to help begin to pay back player’s money.
Massive Buy-In For One Drop Charity Event
Clearly charity brings out the best in people, or at least it’s expected to. One Drop is a charity started by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte who’s aim is to provide clean drinking water to the world’s poor.
The actual event - The Big One for One Drop - will be held at the Rio All-Suite in Las Vegas between July 1st and 3rd, 2012 and the buy-in is $1 million. So it’s just for the high rollers, but if at least 22 players enter, a WSOP platinum bracelet will be awarded.
For the charity, 11.11% of each buy-in will be donated.
